Effects of Chitosan and Salicylic Acid on Physiological Characteristics of Eggplant (Solanum melongena)

Eggplant (Solanum melongena) falls under the fruit species family of Solanaceae. It is grown widely throughout tropical and subtropical Zones in world. a good source phenolics, flavonoids, vitamins, calcium protein. Due to its high nutritional properties, demand for eggplant increasing annually. However, due limited planting space, it difficult producers increase production order meet demand. Thus, objective this study improve growth development selected physiological characteristics with chitosan salicylic acid. The experiment was carried out factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) 4 replications. This conducted at Field 15, Universiti Putra Malaysia. plants were treated acid four different rates; 0, 2, 6 ml/L 50, 100 150 mg/L treatments applied either alone or combination. Results revealed that application combined influenced compared control group. Combination gave highest mean values plant height (107.13 cm), number branches (14.91), leaves (136.08), total flowers per (101.8), other treatments. Therefore, cost effectiveness better impact on combination as foliar fertilizer recommended eggplant. Keywords: Solanum melongena, chitosan, acid, physiology
